Regular Council Meetings

Regular Council Meetings

Regular Council Meetings are held in the S. F. Monestime Council Chambers located in the Municipal Office Building at 160 Water Street in Mattawa. Meetings are set every 2nd and 4th Monday of every month with a start time of 6:00 pm sharp with the exception of July, August and December when there is only 1 regular meeting the 2nd Monday of the month.

If you or your group wish to speak to or make a presentation to Council, you must be placed on the agenda by completing the "Request to Present to Council" form. You can either download the form here or contact the Clerk's Department and request the form be sent to you via email.

Council Meeting Agendas and Minutes

Agendas and minutes are displayed on the website for 2 years (current year and previous year only). If you wish to have the agendas and minutes from previous years not displayed please contact the Clerk's Department during regular office hours.

Meeting Types

Apart from regular Council meetings, Council or Committees of Council will hold normally 3 different types of meetings.

1) PUBLIC MEETINGS – these meetings are normally chaired by either a Committee Chairperson or the Mayor and generally are intended to either provide the public to an opportunity to have input into a certain topic, or for Council to make public information on a specific subject.

2) SPECIAL MEETINGS OF COUNCIL – These meetings are normally called by the Mayor to assemble Council in a meeting outside the schedule of regular meetings. From time to time a subject may require a time sensitive decision. Special meetings often are called to address urgent matters, but Council can be assembled for any reason the Mayor deems is necessary for the proper execution of Council’s responsibilities.

3) MEETINGS of COMMITTEES OF COUNCIL – When Committees are struck by Council, the members of that Committee may choose to meet to carry out its mandate. As such these meetings are open to the public and their topic can be general in nature or very specific and addressing as few as one single topic. Often a Committee of Council will hold a Public Meeting as part of its execution of its responsibilities.
