Mayor & Council

This area provides you with information on the Members of Council, Committees of Council and their meetings.

Council is the legislated governing body for the municipal corporation that approves policies, institutes By-Laws and authorizes the raising of revenue and the necessary expenditures to provide municipal services. Council deals with the business of the Corporation through recommendations of its Committees.

Council holds regular meetings every 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at 6:00 pm sharp at the Municipal Office in the Dr. S. F. Monestime Council Chambers. On occasion, Council will hold special meetings outside of this regular schedule to address pressing or urgent matters. All Council and Committee meetings are public and you are welcome to attend.

If you wish to be included on the agenda to speak to Council directly, you can be added to the Petitions and Delegations portion of the agenda. In order to be included you would request and fill out the form and submit it to the Municipal Clerk by the Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. before a regular Council Meeting.

For each meeting, an agenda is prepared and during the following week a set of minutes of those meetings are prepared. You can keep up to date with current items under Council’s consideration and the decisions made by accessing the Council Agendas & Minutes page for the current and past years on this website.

I was born in 1959, I am bilingual, and I have always been proud to call Mattawa my home. Now retired, Tracey and I are blessed with 2 children and 4 grandchildren who live here. I have a 360° view of Mattawa – I have experienced Mattawa from all angles. I have been a community volunteer, a Councillor from 1983 to 1985, and I possess a 30+ year progressive career with the municipality.

As Mayor my sights are set on:

  • Reforming the way Council decisions are informed
  • Completion of the asset management plan
  • Revising and updating the Council procedure by-law, zoning by-law and official plan
  • Revising and updating shared services agreements with neighboring communities
  • Develop new housing models to meet the needs of all citizens
  • Establish a business retention and attraction plan
  • The culmination, a Strategic Plan which identifies vision, mission, values, and goals that will guide our promising future

What I bring to the table:

  • Forged relationships across the Town of Mattawa and area
  • Setting a direction; elected officials must set policy, and staff need a clear and strong direction from Council to fulfill constituents expectations
  • Effective communication and collaboration, accountability and courtesy, integrity and transparency, solid governance skills, dedication, an unmatched work ethic.

I will provide the business acumen and municipal experience necessary to direct Council in making the fiscally prudent decisions that are required to grow our community, improve municipal services all while carefully managing the tax burden on its businesses and residents. I have the passion, the time, and the community knowledge required to serve as Mayor.
