Garbage and Recycling Collection Schedules

In the Town of Mattawa we do have residential garbage and recycling pick up done by a contractor.  Attached below you will find a schedule of the collection.  During the winter months from November to May the garbage and recycling are only collected every two weeks.  Our summer hours run from May to October which has garbage collection once a week and recycling remains at every two weeks. It’s a good idea to print one of our schedules as there are some changes when it comes to holidays as our contractor needs his holidays as well with a busy schedule.

Garbage Collection

As a reminder there can be no dark green or black garbage bags. Only see through garbage bags will be collected at curb.

Recycling

To facilitate our recycling pick up we need your help. The following are some guidelines that you need to implement when recycling.

You need Two or Three Bins:

One Bin: for all plastic bottles and containers with recycling symbols #1-#7, tin cans and pop cans.
Please Note:
Caps and lids (with recycling symbol #1-#7) are to be placed in your recycling bin left off the bottles and containers, if they have no recycling symbols place in with your household garbage.

One bin: For all your papers, which include loose papers, magazines, newspapers and catalogues etc…

One Bin (or tied and bundled and placed on top of your bin): for your cardboard (broken down and flattened)

A Reminder: Your plastic bags and plastic film such as saran warp, milk bags, bread bags and clear plastic bags (stretchy) are to be placed in see through recycling bag on top of your recycling container. Chip bags inner bags of cereal and cracker boxes, wrapping around cookies is not plastic film and is not recyclable. i.e plastic film that makes a “crunchy noise” is garbage whereas if it stretches, its recyclable.

A Reminder: No glass and No Milk or Juice cartons of any kind or cardboard with a wax coating in your recycling, place these items in with your household garbage.
